WIC

The WIC program is a nutrition program that helps low and moderate-income pregnant women, new mothers, babies and young children eat well, learn about nutrition, and stay healthy.  Casa’s clinic is subcontracted by Maternal and Family Health Services (MFHS) to offer clients vouchers each month that are taken to grocery stores and used to purchase healthy and nutritious foods.  WIC foods include iron-fortified infant formula and infant cereal, iron-fortified adult cereal, vitamin C-rich fruit or vegetable juice, eggs, milk, cheese, peanut butter, dried beans/peas, tuna fish, and carrots.  Special therapeutic infant formulas and medical foods may be provided when prescribed by a physician for a specialized medical condition.   Besides supplemental foods, the clients also receive regular iron level testing and nutritional counseling to ensure that they are meeting basic nutritional needs.

The Casa Guadalupe Center’s WIC clinic is currently the third largest WIC clinic in the Northeast Region, with over 2,900 clients a month, and has been recognized by MFHS for outstanding performance and dedication to customer service.
